TRICARE Prime is a managed care insurance for active duty military insurance for service members and their families; retired service members and their families; activated called or ordered to active duty service members; guard/reserve members and their families; non-activated guard/reserve members and their families who qualify for care under the Transitional Assistance Management Program; retired guard/reserve members at age 60 and their families
TRICARE & TRIWEST has various plans including TRICARE Prime; TRICARE Prime Remote; TRICARE Standard; TRICARE Extra; TRICARE For Life; TRICARE Reserve Select; TRICARE Retired Reserve; and TRICARE Young Adult, Triwest, Humana Military, and Health Net substance abuse treatment providers.
Active duty service members must enroll in TRICARE Prime. All others can choose to enroll or use TRICARE Standard and Extra. TRICARE Prime offers fewer out-of-pocket costs than TRICARE Standard and Extra, but less freedom of choice for providers. If a service member has other health insurance, like Medicare or employer-sponsored health insurance, TRICARE supplements the other health insurance.
